Gareth Williams is a proud 20+-year resident of Burlington who currently lives in the Brant Hills neighbourhood with his wife. He has a strong record of community involvement, working alongside family, friends, and neighbours to build a safer and cleaner future for Burlington families.
For over a decade, Gareth has been active with many local grassroots organizations dedicated to protecting the environment and helping the vulnerable, including BurlingtonGreen, Burlington For Accessible, Sustainable Transit (BFAST), and the Halton Environmental Network.
In 2011, Gareth joined the City of Burlington’s Sustainable Development Committee, serving as a member and then Chair over six years. In that role he worked with fellow committee members to push the municipal government to adopt tougher sustainability standards for buildings, public transportation, and to set a goal of carbon neutrality for city operations.
Gareth follows up his public work with a personal commitment to a sustainable lifestyle, including being among the first in Burlington to retrofit his home to be more energy efficient, including investing in rooftop solar panels. Gareth was also an early adoptee and advocate for Electric Vehicles (EVs) and worked with a local chapter of the EV Society of Ontario to promote it among his community.
Gareth graduated from McMaster University with a B.A. in Political Science before entering his current professional field of Information Technology, where he worked for a wide range of businesses including Fortune 500 enterprises, locally-owned small businesses, and most recently the higher education and law enforcement sectors. He grew up on a dairy farm in nearby Flamborough, Ontario, and is an avid traveler along with his wife, who both enjoy hiking the Bruce Trail with their dog, Misty.
